Integration of device management and secure networking firmware suites to maximize SoC architecture
San Jose and Toronto, May 6, 2003 — Arcturus Networks Inc. and BRECIS Communications Corporation today announced a partnership that will result in the development of next generation management and security software for the BRECIS family of advanced Multi-Service Processors (MSP). The collaboration will result in Arcturus implementing their device management and secure networking firmware suites to the BRECIS MSP architecture. The MSP architecture was the first to cost-effectively handle multiple services (security, voice, and data) in one system-on-silicon (SoC), at a performance and quality level not previously available for customer premise equipment.
Semiconductor vendors such as BRECIS need to ensure their customers have access to complete and robust solutions that help deliver products to the marketplace quickly. Arcturus works directly with an OEM and allows them to get to market quickly by helping them deliver complete, optimized and integrated product solutions. Arcturus provides to their customers a partner with skills at all the OSI layers, as well as hardware and low-level driver software expertise and leverages this to dramatically reduce time-to-market for an OEM or ODM.
“BRECIS has designed an innovative family of devices targeted at the lucrative SME market. By working directly with BRECIS, we will be able to develop a range of product solutions that will enable their customers to take full advantage of the hardware features of the BRECIS MSP architecture,” said Bruce Maxwell, Arcturus Networks CEO.
“By working with Arcturus Networks, BRECIS is able to provide a complete solution for our customers. Arcturus helps provide the missing pieces our customers require to create a complete solution based on the BRECIS Multi-Service Processors (MSP). Arcturus’ product direction lines up exactly with the BRECIS MSP product line and future direction,” said Ben Runyan, Director of Marketing at BRECIS.

About Brecis
BRECIS is the inventor of a new class of single-chip processor called a “Multi-Service Processor” (MSP), that worldwide has become the de facto standard platform for the low-cost design and manufacture of high-performance, broadband security, routing, and multi-service appliances for the SOHO and SME markets. Original equipment manufacturers in Japan, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, Europe, the U.S., and elsewhere have found BRECIS’ groundbreaking multi-service, “system-on-a-chip” architecture; its broad and growing processor family; and its leading-edge security, routing, VPN, and VoIP software; to be vital for effective competition in their local, emerging, broadband CPE markets and on the global stage.
For end users, BRECIS Multi-Service Processors make applications such as high-performance Internet access, multi-line voice over packet-based networks, heightened security, virtual private networking, voice-enabled web content, and entertainment on demand, increasingly practical, available, and affordable.
BRECIS is a late-stage, venture-funded company with a strong customer portfolio, and investors that include Crosslink Capital, Focus Ventures, InterWest Partners, Norwest Venture Partners, and Sequoia Capital. The company, with over 60 employees, is located in San Jose, CA.
