Toronto, Canada - March 27, 2002 — Arcturus Networks Inc. a leading innovator of embedded firmware and hardware solutions today announced the availability of the uCdimm ColdFire 5272 embedded microcontroller module, an extension to the popular uCdimm family and featuring the powerful Motorola MCF5272 microcontroller.

Geared toward the development of next generation smart embedded LAN/WAN routers, firewalls and Virtual Private Network (VPN) devices, the uCdimm features dual Ethernet ports 10/100BaseT/10BaseT, high speed serial ports, uClinux embedded operating system, 8MB of SDRAM and 2 or 4MB of Flash. The uCdimm is ideal as a LAN/WAN interface, smart firewall or embedded VPN solution because of it’s easily integrated 1.6 in x 2.9in, 144pin soDIMM form factor. The uCdimm also includes a single cycle multiply / accumulate (MAC) engine for DSP, making it very attractive for industrial control applications.

“Our customers are looking for an elegant, inexpensive way to build network devices such as VPNs, LAN/WAN gateways and smart firewalls.” said Michael Durrant Vice-President of Product Development. “We capitalized on the ColdFire functionality to offer our customers a full featured solution combining our innovative uCdimm module design with our extensible uClinux embedded operating system.”

The uCdimm ColdFire5272 is also offered with optional Arcturus Residential Gateway firmware, including MIB based web and SNMP infrastructure which enables remote management, monitoring and provisioning via a simple XML enhanced web interface or SNMP client. Secure Data and Routing firmware is also available which includes tunneling, authentication and encryption to enable the fast deployment of VPNs and secure networked devices. The optional Arcturus firmware makes the uCdimm 5272 a complete plug-in solution giving developers the security and control functionality they need, without investing the time money to develop it.
